A truckload carrier in the freight industry for over 80 years, A.V. Dedmon Trucking continually manages and delivers dependable solutions in transportation, vehicle maintenance, and professional moving. As one of the oldest members of the North Carolina Trucking Association, we have actively participated in helping shape the history of the trucking industry.

Since 1941, A. V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc. continues to be a locally owned and operated family business. With over 20 dedicated employees we provide viable solutions to the most challenging trucking requests.

Charles Dedmon (CEO) and his daughter, Lora Dedmon (President) are proud of the company’s local roots and are honored to serve the people of Cleveland County. 1941
 The Beginning

Brothers A.V. and Wray Dedmon purchased a transfer company. The purchase consisted of: 1932 B Model Ford Truck, 1936 V-8 Ford Truck, a gas tank, desk, crowbar, hook & skid, and a rope and tackle.

 Officially Founded

Later A. V. bought out his brother Wray and A. V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc. was founded. 1946
 East Coast Expansion

In 1946, the business expanded to include a daily run to Charlotte. Later routes opened up to Kingsport TN, Memphis TN, Chicago IL, and points beyond.

1952
 Wheaton Agent

In 1952, A. V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc. became an agent for Wheaton Van Lines, making us one of the oldest agents. From the small beginnings in 1941, A. V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc. has grown to provide household moving worldwide through our partnership with Wheaton Van Lines.

1965
 New Office

In 1965, the company moved into a newly built office and terminal on Highway 150. By this time, sons Charles and Joe had joined their father in the business.

1967
 2nd Generation

A.V. Dedmon served as President of the company until his death in 1967. Son, Charles then became President and son, Joe became Vice President.  Joe Dedmon served as Vice President until his retirement in 2000. A. V.’s widow, Lizzie Lee, served as Secretary- Treasurer until her death in 2002.

1981
 Hauling Furniture

During the early 80’s through the early 2000’s, A. V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc. hauled new furniture to points throughout the country, forming strong bonds with Drexel Heritage, Broyhill and Bernhardt Furnishings.

1983
 Don Ledbetter

In 1983, Don Ledbetter became Vice President of Operations and served in this capacity until his retirement in 1999. Don Ledbetter worked for the company from 1966-1999.  

 Trail-Blazing

In 1983, a law was passed allowing double trailers on interstate highways. Charles and Joe Dedmon were the first in North Carolina to use double trailers.  So quick, in fact, that they were detained at the weight station in Charlotte until DOT in Raleigh could be reached to approve their…Read More

1984
 Inter-Coastal

After ICC Deregulation in 1984, the business expanded its operations into the Southeast and to the West Coast. Wayne Howell and Gus Catlin ran the first trip to California.

2000
 VP Lora Dedmon

In 2000, Lora Dedmon joined her father Charles in the business and serves as Vice President.

2010
 Safe Drivers

Safety has always been a top priority of this company, and many of our current and former drivers have received safe driving awards throughout the years.

2016
 75th Anniversary

2020
New Leadership

Lora Dedmon became President and her sister, Lenita Dedmon Griffin, became Vice President. Charles Dedmon remains active as CEO.
